The coronary crisis has once again shown the importance of sport and vitality, whether in your spare time or at work. Initiatives shot up, from walking apps to online fitness training. Yet there is still plenty to gain in the area of sport and vitality in the workplace. Are you curious about how you can ensure fit and vital staff?
Importance of a vital workforce
Exercise contributes to focus and concentration, less downtime and possibly also to team bonding, if colleagues exercise together. It is of course obvious that physical health contributes to mental health, but exercise has a very short-term effect on the brain. Half an hour's exercise in the morning, for example, increases concentration and energy for the rest of the day.
Move every hour
Not everyone has time to exercise in the morning, but even at the office you can contribute to a better vitality with small changes in behaviour. It's very simple, you just have to leave your desk every hour to walk to a colleague or the coffee machine, for example. The important thing is not to sit on your chair for hours on end. So get in the habit of getting up and walking around every hour.
Breaks
Not only exercise is important for vitality, rest is important too. So give your brain enough time to recharge in between. Take a ten-minute break every now and then to relax and not worry about work. You will notice that you are more productive afterwards. Try out what works best for you and keep track of how long you can work in a concentrated way.
Healthy diet
Do you have a busy day? Or do you have to work through the evening? Then the temptation to reach for a fatty snack is often great; a filled biscuit as a snack, ordering food from the snack bar and a can of soft drink to wash it down. But this only gives you temporary satisfaction, after that it will only work against you. So make sure you have healthy snacks in between meals and try to drink plenty of water.
Challenges
Challenging each other to exercise more is a good step towards overall vitality in the workplace. For example, take part in a step challenge to see who has made the most metres at the end of the month. Choose a challenge that everyone can participate in, so you can also get employees to exercise who would normally not do so (quickly).
Facilitating
Unfortunately, not every company has the means to build a gym in its office. Fortunately, there are many ways to facilitate exercise. It can be as simple as a table tennis table in the office or a discount on a gym subscription, sportswear or membership of a sports club. Challenges like the one above are also a great and simple way to get employees moving.
