About your work at Convins....
What is your position & What does an average workday at Convins look like?
My position is Trainer/Coach and Team Captain. In this combined role, I am responsible for induction, coaching and training of (new) staff members as well as leading the training room in Valencia.
Workdays vary, of course, but we often start the day with a morning meeting with the team captains in Valencia. When we are ready, the first people pour in and of course we start with a cup of coffee. During the morning I listen in with employees, as they often have callback appointments scheduled with useful leads. I try to coach them proactively and take notes to incorporate this into the coaching emails that I later write out, send and discuss with the employees. I may have a call appointment scheduled in between with a prospect for one of our IT clients, which I then pick up as well. If an employee's quality percentages are below target, I make a quality analysis for the month or quarter. The same goes for a project where profitability and/or quality is below target. A thorough analysis takes time, so when there is space for something in a day I try to devote it to this. Later that day, we have a Team Meeting with the Operational Managers and Team Captains in Apeldoorn and Utrecht to discuss the progress of employees and projects and to set out actions where necessary. Towards the end of the day, I send out another coaching email and have one-on-one conversations. In the meantime, it is almost 5 p.m. and we, as location Valencia, have obviously achieved the day's target, after which we end the day downstairs on Tony's terrace.
What do you enjoy most about your position at Convins?
What I love about my position as Trainer/Coach and Team Captain is the impact I have on people's development. It is great to see the direct impact of a coaching or training session and therefore see people grow and become confident in their role. In addition, this role also offers me the opportunity to improve internal processes by performing project and quality analyses.
How do you experience the team at Convins?
When I started at Convins, we were still in the old building and had a fairly small team. Since then, including a move, we have gone through a lot of development and, with everyone joining in the meantime, created a unique atmosphere and culture. We regularly organize outings such as a BBQ, drinks or a soccer tournament. Furthermore, we have a fairly flat organization and there is also good and regular contact with colleagues in the Netherlands. Colleagues regularly come over and vice versa and I recently flew with two colleagues from Valencia to the Netherlands for the opening of our new headquarters in Apeldoorn.
Now something more personal...
What are your hobbies?
As for sports, I used to run, play soccer and padel regularly. Due to an injury I got during a soccer tournament, that has been put on hold for a while. I also like to go away for the weekends or take the car with some friends and go hiking, followed by a drink of course. We also recently bought a house and we still need to do some work on it, so this also fills the weekends.
What is your work background?
I have a hotel school background and have worked in the hospitality industry both in the Netherlands and abroad. Nice time, great work but still I missed something. After my studies I worked briefly in the recruitment industry, but this too did not give me satisfaction. In the end it turned out to be not so much the work but more the need for adventure. So when my girlfriend offered to work in Spain for a year, the choice was quickly made. I started working in sales here and a gap year Spain has (so far) become permanent. I have been working at Convins since March 2023.
What are your dreams/ambitions?
We have a relatively young branch here in Valencia and it is a great challenge to help in its further development. The aim should be to establish the best performing branch in Convins, so that is our ambition as a location. Personally, I think it would be interesting to eventually take on a more overarching role should another branch be opened in Spain, for example. On a personal level, I also have dreams. For example, last year we bought a house just outside the city. We have a reasonable garden and would like to have something to rent out here in the future.
Which 2 items would you take with you to a desert island?
A satellite phone and GPS tracker.
Now just a little sporty...
Do you practice a sport and to what extent does this affect your drive/performance in the workplace?
Until recently, I played soccer, but a torn Achilles tendon nipped a promising career as a left winger with local CF in the bud.
Suppose you get to pick one workout for the rest of your life, which one will you choose and why?
If I had to choose one workout for the rest of my life, I would choose a HIT workout. Going to the limit in a short time with an intense workout. This has everything in it in my opinion. Good for your muscles, fitness and health. And then quickly back on the terrace of course!
